British F1 GP - Silverstone, England - 04-07 Jul 2024

Updated: Aug 21

We have been F1 fans for a few years now and decided to go to Silverstone this year as it took place on my Birthday weekend and Kings of Leon were the opening headline concert - Favourite Band, Sport and my Birthday - the stars were aligning for me!

We were there for the full 4 days and it was a fantastic experience, we loved it. Nothing quite prepares you for the speed and sound of the cars!

Our tickets were for the Abbey Enclosure, therefore we had a great view of the Starting Line and the Team Garages (we were directly across from the McLaren, Ferrari, "APX", Mercedes and Red Bull garages).

We didn't realise that the Brad Pitt F1 film crew would be there this year, but they were - everyday! I seen the main man himself at the back of the APX garage along with this co-star Damson Idris. I also seen the other main star of the film, Javier Bardem, on race day. We even got the first showing of the Trailer for the film! During the showing of the trailer, Guenther Steiner got the biggest cheer when he appeared on it!

A lot of filming took place over the weekend, including Brad and Damson driving F1 lookalike cars around the circuit several times per day. Brilliant to watch!

As we were there for the 4 days, we got to watch the Sky F1 Show being made, as well as all the F2 & F3 races.

F1 Quali was pretty exciting as there was 3 Brits in the top 3 (1. Russell, 2. Hamilton & 3. Norris). This made for an amazing atmosphere - even tho' I'm a Verstappen/Red Bull fan!!

On Race Day, we had a great pitch in the Abbey Enclosure and could see the grid, all the celebs, former F1 drivers, movie stars etc walking along the line of the garages then on the grid. As well as all this, there was a spectacular display from the Red Arrows and the national anthem sung by Hannah Waddingham.

The race itself was very exciting from start to finish with all kinds of weather thrown in for good measure! I felt really sorry for Russell, who suffered a DNF after starting in Pole Position.

This is a great summary of the full race by PlanetF1

The end result was:

  1. Lewis Hamilton

  2. Max Verstappen

  3. Lando Norris

Even tho' I'm a Max fan, it was great to see Lewis win on his final race at Silverstone with Mercedes. Again, the atmosphere was amazing as it was a British winner.

It was an experience we will never forget and would love to repeat it someday, maybe even in another country.
