San Francisco, California - Sep 2006

Updated: Apr 13, 2018

After driving up the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles (with an overnight stay in Santa Maria), we landed in San Francisco. We stayed the in the North Beach Area and were just a short walk to the Piers.

The first thing that struck me about this beautiful city was that it was like no other America city I had ever visited, it actually looked more European than American! Also, it had its very own weather system!!

The highlights of this holiday were our trip to Alcatraz, what a fascinating, if a little spooky. place it is!

We were also very lucky to be in town when the main Titanic Exhibition was there which included all the items savaged from the ship as well as a huge part of the ship itself, “The Big Piece”. The Exhibition is now permantely docked at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.

We also rode the trollies and visited Haight-Ashbury which was lovely, but probably has lost all it hippie-ness!.

Weirdly, all the locals thought we were Irish or Australian!
