Los Angeles, California - Sep 2006

Updated: Apr 13, 2018

We stayed on Beverly Boulevard in a fantastic little hotel called the Élan Hotel – would totally recommend it.

We were right next to the Beverly Centre and just a few streets down from Melrose Ave and Santa Monica Blvd, so all in all, it was a great location!

We done all the usual things such as the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Kodak Theatre (think Oscars), Rodeo Drive and also The Ivy where we saw Travis Barker (Drummer of Blink 182) and his family.

We also took the “Hollywood Homes” tour and saw all the famous people’s homes but no actual famous people! However, on the way back to the hotel, Alan spotted the actor Colin Farrell driving a beat-up pickup truck parallel to us, so all was not lost in the end!

I love art and made a point of visiting The Getty Center, which is located high up in the Santa Monica Mountains with views of LA. The Centre itself is a modern architectural marvel with beautiful colourful gardens – I adore it. The art inside was amazing too and we felt very privileged to be able to see works from such artists as Degas, Rembrandt, Raphael, van Gogh, da Vinci, Rubens, Turner, Cézanne to name just a famous few.

One thing I remember about being in California were the perfect cloudless blue-BLUE skies!

For our second week, we drove up to San Francisco via the Pacific Coast Highway visiting all the famous beaches such as Santa Monica, Malibu and Venice. We stopped for lunch in Montecito, Santa Barbara – now this is a place where I could live (if I won the lottery!).

Even though this was a bucket list road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway, I would love to do it again!
