I had always wanted to visit Skye (I guess it must be in my blood as my paternal grandmother was from Skye).
We decided to take a long-weekend trip up there. Firstly, the drive to Skye from Loch Lomond is utterly breath-taking, probably one of the best in the world.
We stayed on the mainland just before the Skye Bridge in a wonderful guest house called Balmacara Mains.
The weather was wet but it totally added to the experience of visiting Skye, it just seems like such a mystical island with the Cuillin Mountain Range as a formidable spine running through it.
Very close to the hotel was the famous Eilean Donan Castle. We loved it and again, you felt the history of the place all around you.
We had a fantastic dinner at The Plockton Shores Restaurant and would highly recommend it.
Because is was so wet, we saw lots of rainbows too!
